This drama is directed by Le Da Kyung, a director who has also directed Korean dramas such as Youth of May (2021).

Characters

1. Yunho - 최민기 (Choi Min-ki / REN): Yunho is the head of the Byungpan family and has had weak health since childhood. Despite this, he is the strongest among his friends, 'Jae-woon' and 'Seol'. Yunho often bears the worries of his two friends but has the toughest heart among them.

2. Jae-woon - 박상남 (Park Sang-nam): Jae-woon is a scholar (서자) with a high social status, yet he behaves without shame and values Yunho, his childhood friend, more than anyone else. He appreciates the friendship with Yunho and has a humble nature despite his high status.

3. Seol - 홍승희 (Hong Seung-hee): Seol is the daughter of a fallen noble family. Despite having to take on the role of the eldest daughter in her family, Seol remains cheerful and does not lose her spirit. She plays the role of someone always grateful to her friends who help her in various ways.

4. Choihee - 함은정 (Ham Eun-jung): Choihee is a gisaeng (기생), also serving as the closest advisor to the three young men. As someone who provides advice and wisdom, she plays a crucial role in their lives. Despite the taboo nature of Choihee's profession, she remains a valuable source of insight and advice to Yunho, Jae-woon, and Seol.

Synopsis

"Behind The Shadow" is a South Korean romantic drama that depicts love and friendship in the Joseon era. The story revolves around three childhood friends, Yunho (played by Ren/Choi Min-ki), Jae-woon (played by Park Sang-nam), and Seol (played by Hong Seung-hee), who have a strong bond since childhood.

In the midst of summer, as first love grows unnoticed, Yunho begins to realize his uncontrollable feelings for his childhood friend, Haru.
